Key Features

Match on action rule is important in editing and filming. It means the action that goes on has to continue from exactly the same place as it finished in the last scene. It helps the audience continually understand what’s going on the scene.

Eyeline match is based on the audience curiousness. They want to see what the character sees. The eyeline match means the camera shots the facial expression of the character while he/she looking at something, then shows the object to sate the desire of the audience.

The point of view shot shows what a person is looking at. This shot is usually positioned between a shot of the character as it is looking at something and a shot of the character’s reaction.

180 degree rule says the camera cannot cross the axis. It also says that two characters should always have the same left and right relationship to each other. When a camera crosses the ‘axis’ connecting to two subjects, it is called ‘crossing the line’. The new shot is called the reverse angle.

30 degree rule is a technique to make a longer scene more interesting for the viewer by changing the camera’s depth, perspective and angle. In the following shots the camera shouldn’t be moved more than 30 degrees.

Graphic match means the centre of focus is positioned at the same spot as in the previous scene. It helps to make a smooth transition from a shot to the net one.

We made a video that represents these features.
